Dubai’s Heritage Village organize an exhibition of classic cars

Classic car enthusiasts from the UAE and other parts of the world are being offered a visual treat by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) through an exhibition of classic cars at the Heritage Village in Al Shindagha during the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF-2012) running until February 5.

The classic cars show is one of the events lined up by the DTCM as part of its participation for the 17th successive year in DSF. On display at the Dubai Creek promenade from 5 pm to 10 pm every day during the DSF duration, the collection includes some of the most elegant, beautiful and rare classic cars, offering insights into the way cars used to be in the past and the phenomenal evolution of the automobile industry.
Mr. Anwar Al Hanai, DTCM Director of Heritage Village and Member of the DSF Organizing Committee for DSF-2012 programs, said the exhibition, since its opening on January 5, has remained very popular among the visitors from all nationalities, especially the youngsters.

He said the heritage sites give a vivid portrayal of the emirate’s old traditions and history, and it is our strong endeavor to ensure that people of all generations are able to learn more about the Arabian heritage. With this in mind, this year, we have made special efforts so that the visitors would be able to enjoy the activities.
The classic cars exhibition has been put together in cooperation with the Emirates Motor Sports Federation. This exhibition has been organized for the second successive year.

The exhibition has been organized on the advice of Sheikh Marwan bin Rashid Al Mualla, Chairman of the UAE Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF) and Middle East’s famous car racing champion, Mohammed bin Sulayem who chairs the Automobile and Touring Club, the only officially nominated representative of the FIA, motor sport’s world governing body, in the UAE.
Each week, the exhibition will showcase cars by the country of their make – Germany, Japan, the US and other parts of Europe. The first week started with the US. Among the classic cars on display include Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman Model 1956, which is among the eight such cars in the UAE and 2677 in the whole world. It was a popular car for the royalties and kings in the 1950s.

The collection includes personal, sports and transportation cars. The other cars on display include Chevrolet Impala Model 1965, Ford Mustang Model 1965, Pontiac GT Model 1971, Ford Model 1969 and 1970, Cadillac Model 1976, Mercedes-Benz S 450 L, Datsun Z Model 1969 and Mercedes-Benz 450 SL Model 1977. The stars of the exhibition are Chevrolet Corvette Model 1973 and Chevrolet Corvette Model 1982.
The Al Shindagha complex offers visitors a splendid set of old maps exhibiting urban growth of Dubai in the last century, desert life, traditional Arabian homes, mosques, fishing, farming, dhow building, pearl diving and every-day trading. Colorful and suggestive dioramas complete with life-size figures and sound and lighting effects illustrate life in Dubai’s old days. Also interesting to the visitors are traditional wooden seafaring dhows used for fishing, trading and pearling, boat building and diving tools. The Heritage Village focuses on the UAE‘s maritime past, trading activities and local history.
