Although it is supposed to be unveiled in the New York Auto Show next month, Mercedes has revealed the first images and details of the new V12-powered SL 65 AMG. This 4.300 pounds roadster is able to accelerate to 100 KMs in 3.9 seconds! If you wonder how this is possible, then you would find the answer under the hood. It is possible because of the twin turbocharged 6.0 liter V12 engine that cranks out 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.
The 63 AMG models which are fitted with a brand new twin turbo 5.5 liter V8 engine is the roadster that many enjoy. But if you want the ultimate high-performance baby, then you need to grab yourself one of those *65 AMG babies because that is why they are made for; the ultimate performance. We witnessed the presence of the 2013 SL63 AMG at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, but what we will see in this month’s New York Auto Show is the SL debuting off its range-topping spec. Not much of a change we witnessed on the engine except the new updates concerning the turbochargers. But, what is strikingly obvious is the change over the gearbox. The new AMG has 7 speed-shift transmission while, historically speaking, the AMG cars were mated to a five speed auto. Thanks to the aluminum body, the new baby has lost 254 pounds in comparison to the 2012 model. The prices tag is still unrevealed but expectations roam around $200,000.
