Apple is just about to launch a smaller tablet computer in the next few months in order to keep its flow going strong into the market, as WJ reports. Already prepared, the component parts manufacturers are going to be producing a big number of the tablets in September which indicates that the launch may be near. The Wall Street Journal cited one source as saying that Apple was working with screen-makers LG Display of South Korea and Taiwan’s AU Optronics. However, the tablet’s screen would be smaller than eight inches in comparison to the 9.7 inch screen Apple’s iPad launched two years back.
Since the early release of the iPad, Apple has dominated the market for tablet computers. However, it has always suffered the increasing competition of other corporations like: Amazon, Samsung, Microsoft and of course, Google. According to Brian White, an analyst with Topeka Capital Markets,: "We would expect the cannibalization of the current iPad by the ‘iPad Mini’ to be relatively minor and potentially in a range of just 10-20 percent, while the market opportunity could eventually be larger for the ‘iPad Mini’ given the growth trends in developing countries,"
